How to Create a New Product
This article walks through how to create a new product from scratch, including product details, photos, pricing, and units.
Starting a New Product
Navigate to Inventory, then Products. This shows a list of all of your current products.
Click Add Products in the top right.
Basic Product Setup
Select whether this is a product for sale or a product for rent.
Title the product.
Add a minimum rental duration in hours if desired, or leave this blank for no minimum. For example, you might set 24 hours, or adjust it to 48, 8, or any number you prefer.
Add a security deposit amount if one should apply to this product.
Select whether the product is available for pickup.
Add the minimum quantity required when someone rents this product, as well as any recommended quantity or increment quantity settings.
Categories and Photos
Select the category this product should be listed under. A product can exist under multiple categories.
Add product photos by clicking and dragging them into the upload area.
Product Description
Add a product description manually, or type in the product name and click Generate Description with AI to automatically generate a description you can copy and paste in.
Locations and Additional Settings
Select the locations this product should apply to.
Configure settings as needed, including hour tracking, specific overage rate, delivery availability, proof of insurance requirement, and damage waiver.
These sections can be skipped if they do not apply to this product.
Select whether product tracking should be by quantity or by serial unit.
Set specific delivery costs for this product if they differ from your general settings, and add any unavailable costs if applicable.
Saving the Product
Click Save Changes to create the product.
Additional Tabs After Creation
Once the product has been created, you can go through additional tabs to configure further details.
Links. Add things like a YouTube video, and add any add ons that should apply to this product, then click Save Changes.
SEO. Most people leave this tab as is, since the defaults work well.
Options. Custom Builder settings can typically be left alone here.
Product Units. If tracking by serial unit, click Add, enter the unit number or serial number, and select the location it applies to. Repeat for each serial unit needed.
Pricing. Add rental pricing by selecting the pricing type, for example day pricing with a quantity of one at a set rate per day. You can leave the starts on and ends on dates blank, or select a specific start date. Choose how often this pricing should be available during the week, for example daily, and select whether it should show on the product card, then save. Repeat this process for each pricing structure needed. See the help article on how to add pricing for more detail.
After Setup
Once pricing has been added, the product will show up on your e-commerce site.
You can come back at any time to adjust any of these settings as needed.
Common Questions
Can a product be both for sale and for rent?
The product type is selected at the start of setup as either for sale or for rent. Tracking and pricing options will vary depending on which type you choose.
What happens if I leave the product description blank?
You can either write a description manually or use the Generate Description with AI feature by typing in the product name and clicking Generate, which creates a description you can copy and paste in.
Can a product be listed under more than one category?
Yes. A product can exist under multiple categories at once.
How do I set up pricing for a new product?
