How to Edit an Existing Product

Edit an existing product's details, units, links, and pricing across each tab, including QBO income accounts and rental rates.

How to Edit an Existing Product

This article walks through how to edit an existing product, which is very similar to adding a new product, but starts from a different entry point.

Finding the Product

  • From the dashboard, go to Inventory, then Products.

  • Instead of clicking Add Products, find the existing product you want to edit.

  • Click on the product name, or click the pencil icon on the right hand side, to open it for editing.

Editing the Product Details Page

  • This page shows all of the information for the product and can be edited as needed.

  • If you are connected to QBO, you can change income accounts. If you are using GL codes, you can select the accounts this product should apply to.

  • You can adjust core product settings, including the product name, whether it is for sale, for rent, or both by selecting or deselecting these options, minimum rental duration, security deposit amount, and whether it is available for pickup.

  • You can also update the category the product is listed under, the photo shown on the website (you can delete existing photos or add new ones), and the description.

  • Once you have made your changes on this page, click Save Changes.

Links Tab

  • Go to the Links tab to select add ons to apply to this product.

  • As with the main product page, click Save Changes after making any edits here.

Product Units Tab

  • If a product is available for both sale and rent, you can adjust the sale cost and quantity here, then click Save Changes.

  • To add units for rental items, click Add, enter the new unit's serial number, select the location, and save.

  • To delete a unit, click the trash can icon next to it.

Pricing Tab

  • This tab shows pricing for both the sale price and rental price, if the product is available for both.

  • Click the pencil icon on the right hand side to edit the current pricing, for example changing a rate from $50 a day to $100 a day.

  • To delete a pricing structure altogether, click the trash can icon. The same process applies to sale prices.

Saving Your Changes

  • Regardless of which tab you are editing, navigate to Inventory, then Products, click into the product, select the tab you want to make changes on, and click Save Changes when finished.

Common Questions

How is editing a product different from adding a new one?
The process is very similar. The main difference is the starting point. Instead of clicking Add Products, you find the existing product in Inventory, then Products, and click into it to edit.

Can I change whether a product is available for sale, rent, or both?
Yes. On the main product details page, you can select or deselect whether the product is for sale, for rent, or both.

How do I add or remove rental units for a product?
Go to the Product Units tab, click Add to enter a new unit's serial number and location, or click the trash can icon next to an existing unit to delete it.

How do I update the price of a product?
Go to the Pricing tab and click the pencil icon next to the sale price or rental price you want to change. You can also delete a pricing structure entirely using the trash can icon.

Do I need to save changes on each tab separately?
Yes. Each tab, including the main product page, Links, Product Units, and Pricing, has its own Save Changes button that needs to be clicked after making edits on that tab.
