ID Scanning Integration
Now integrated into the platform to verify customer identities during the ordering process.
Two scanning methods are supported: e-commerce (online orders) and in-person (via a physical scanner device).
E-commerce method: once a customer places an order online and reaches checkout, if ID scanning is turned on for the account, the customer will see a message about receiving a text message after placing the order. As soon as they click the button to place the order, they receive a text with a link to scan their ID.
Clicking the text link opens a mobile scanning flow that displays the company's logo, requests camera access, and takes a moment to load before scanning.
The customer takes a picture of the front of the license, then the back. Both sides are required.
If the ID is fake or fails verification, the flow returns an error and prompts the customer to rescan rather than allowing the order to proceed.
If the ID is real, the scan completes successfully, the license data displays on screen, the customer can download the image of the scan, and they're navigated back to their order page.
Once a customer's ID is scanned and saved to their profile, it does not need to be rescanned on future orders, it auto populates from their profile.
Note: the delivery/billing address does not auto populate from the ID, since that may differ from the address listed on the license itself.
Customer Portal scanning: customers can also scan or update their driver's license directly from their account settings, under the driver's license section of the customer portal. If ID scanning is enabled, the portal will prompt them to scan their license before they can place an order request. This uses the same front and back scan flow.
Scanning verifies data, not just collects it. The system checks that the information printed on the front of the ID matches the barcode data encoded on the back, to confirm the ID is authentic and not just legible.
In-person method: requires purchasing the Jamalto CR-5400 ID scanner hardware. Our team assists with onboarding and setup, which includes downloading and installing scanning software (such as Veriscan or Wizforms). Software is not included with the device and must be installed separately.
The CR-5400 scans any 1D format ID, meaning U.S. and Canadian driver's licenses. It does not support military IDs, green cards, passports, or passport cards, even though the hardware itself is capable of reading those formats. Only driver's license type IDs are supported through this integration currently.
The device connects to a computer via a single USB cable and requires no external power supply.
The scanner's LED indicator shows green if the ID passes authentication or red if it fails, so staff don't need to check the monitor to know the result.
On the admin console side, once an ID is scanned successfully (green light), the renter's information from the license auto populates into the system. Staff then enter the customer's phone number to complete the new customer record.
If the scanned person already exists in the system with an outdated ID on file, the scan will automatically match and update the existing account rather than creating a duplicate.
Each computer running the in-person scanning setup needs its own dedicated scanner and software installation, one scanner cannot serve multiple computers.
Only one scanner model, the Jamalto CR-5400, currently integrates with the platform. Other scanner models are not supported at this time.
Purchase and pricing information for the CR-5400, including an optional extended warranty, is available here: https://idscan.net/product/quipli-rental-software-cr5400-id-drivers-license-scanner/
Common Questions
Will one ID scanner work for multiple computers?
No, each computer needs its own dedicated ID scanner and software installation.
Will customers have to provide an ID every time they place an e-commerce order?
No. Once an ID is scanned and added to their profile, that information auto populates on each order after that.
Will the delivery or billing address auto populate from the scanned ID?
No, since the delivery or billing address may be different from the home address listed on the ID.
Can you scan a passport or a passport card?
Not at the moment. The team is looking into ways to support this in the future.
Do other scanner machines integrate with the platform?
At the moment, the Jamalto CR-5400 is the only scanner model that integrates with the platform.
What hardware is needed to scan an ID?
For e-commerce orders, customers just need their own mobile device to take a picture of their ID. For in-person scanning, the business needs the Jamalto CR-5400 scanner connected via USB.
